Buy and sell crude tall oil
Crude tall oil is the kraft pulp mill's liquid gold: a RED Annex IX residue with oleochemical, fuel and road-marking demand all competing for limited supply. Mills and fractionators trade it globally — verified and anonymous here until the deal.

What is Crude Tall Oil (CTO)?
- By-product of the kraft (sulphate) pulping process, recovered from black liquor skimming
- Fractionated into tall oil fatty acids (TOFA), tall oil rosin (TOR), distilled tall oil (DTO) and pitch
- Listed in RED Annex IX — value as renewable feedstock alongside established chemical uses
- Supply concentrated in Scandinavia and North America; demand increasingly global
Typical trading specifications
- Acid number: key quality metric for CTO trading
- Rosin / fatty acid / unsaponifiables split: determines fractionation value
- Water & impurities: negotiated per parcel
- Logistics: bulk, heated storage and transport
Certifications
- ISCC EU — evidence uploadable to your profile
- REDcert — evidence uploadable to your profile
Who trades it here
- Sellers: Kraft pulp mills, CTO traders and storage operators
- Buyers: Fractionators, Oleochemical producers (TOFA/TOR users), Renewable fuel and HVO routes, Road marking / coatings industry
Frequently asked questions
Why is CTO demand rising?
Renewable fuel and bio-based chemical routes have joined the traditional TOFA/TOR customers in bidding for a supply that cannot easily grow — pulp output sets the ceiling. That competition makes a verified, wide counterparty network worth real money.
What determines CTO price?
The acid number and the rosin/fatty acid split drive fractionation yield, plus freight and seasonality. Buyers price against their end use — fractionators, fuel routes and chemicals each bid differently.
Does CTO qualify under RED?
Crude tall oil and tall oil pitch are named in RED Annex IX, giving waste/residue status under the schemes. As always, the proof is in the chain-of-custody documentation your certifier issues.
Can I trade fractionated products too?
Yes — TOFA, TOR, DTO and pitch all trade. List them as separate offers with their own specs so the right buyers find them.
